The Out West Basketball Association is proud of its Elite program. No other Canadian organization focussed upon female basketball development has achieved excellence the way Out West has. Each season Out West selects athletes who play in the Canadian post secondary system or those who are about to enter university or college basketball programs. These athletes train in Calgary and then go on to compete against high level professional and national teams in the USA and Europe. Out West leads all Canadian programs in placement of ahtletes on professional teams in Europe which is a key objectitve of the Out West program. Out West has established working relationships with European recruiters focussed upon athlete placement. Head Coach - Cory Russell
Coach Russell was the visionary who developed the Elite program concept more than five years ago and has been critical to its outstanding success.
Coach Mitchell is a highly regarded Calgary high school coach with a background in professional and post secondary as well. Coach mitchell is one of the most senior coaches in Calgary and has been key to the success of the Out West Elite program over the years. Technical Guest Coaches and Alliances Out West has appreciated the assistance and input of specialty coaches over the years who have contributed to the achievements of the Elite program. These coaches include Canadian University coaches, and head coaches of professional teams in the U.S.A. Out West has also formed alliances with those able to advise as to season content and athlete development. Out West coaches have fostered such relationships in Germany, Britain and the U.S.A. Out West believes that to achieve excellence in sport, we must reach out to others who have achieved such excellence, and the Elite program has benefited from such collaborative relationships.

Coach Russell of Calgary began his coaching career in the U.S. as Assistant Coach at Stanford University and the University of California at Santa Barbara. He then was employed as a scout for the Chicago Bulls and subsequently served as Head Coach of the Calgary 88’s (WBL) and the San Jose Jammers (Continental Basketball Association). Coach Russell further served as Assistant Coach at the University of San Francisco, and Head Coach of the University of Calgary Dinos.
